If you're looking for something savory, you might want to skip the Original Sando. Looking at the menu, it won't be obvious that it is slightly sweet (we didn't know!) and was happy to have been steered towards the Cheese Sando instead. We opted for the Harissa and the egg was fluffy and hot, oozing of I think American sliced cheese (just go with it) between two very thick/fluffy white breads. I found it to be a bit steep at $11 but curiosity got the best of us.
The Fruit Sando was almost like a whipped cream cake. Ours had halved grapes and chopped strawberries with similar bread used on the Cheese Sando. We ate it like a cake too with a utensil rather than hold it up and take bites from it as a sandwich.
We washed it all down with a Strawberry latte. It was more of a strawberry milk on ice rather than what you might think you'd get when ordering a a "latte" so the description might be confusing to some. With chunks of strawberries it was fresh, delicious, not overbearingly sweet and refreshing. I loved it.
The employees were very nice and walked over our orders to our table. I'd come back! -

I was excited to try Ichi sando since it's a popular Japanese white bread egg sandwich that is just starting to become trendy in the states. I felt underwhelmed though. I tried the original sando. The sandwich is large and tastes okay, but it was too sweet and too one dimensional in flavor. After a couple bites I didn't really want more of it, so I'd recommend splitting one with someone.
The biggest issue I have with it is the price. $10+ for an egg sandwich is way beyond what I'd pay for one. But hey, it's SF after all. -

Sharing is caring! That's how I like to eat! My friend and I were looking to grab some tea and hang out after already grabbing some snacks when we ran into this cute little shop. I would imagine shops in Japan are just like this one. Cute, clean and charming!
We opted to share the Cheese Sando. It was served hot and fresh off the press. It was soft, warm and mouth watering yumminess in my mouth. Even though we shared the sandwich, I couldn't finish mine. It was a pretty big portion for me or I was just too full from my previous snacks and couldn't put more food in my stomach. It was really good and I was excited to eat the leftovers for breakfast the next day. I love leftovers! This place would be a great breakfast spot but they don't open until 11am. Bummers, but I got my breakfast to go! -

I came here excited to try the original sando because I love sweet salty things, but it fell flat. This was just really sweet. I chose Harissa for a little kick, but the sauce was so light I could barely taste it. Though the portion is pretty large (I could only eat half) the sandwich is pricey for what it is, and too one dimensional to justify the price.

One of my best friends has been on a Tamagoyaki kick for some time, and she highly advised that I give it a try while I was in Japantown. My sister and I found Ichi Sando while walking around the Japan Center, and I realized that it was the spot my friend was referring to as her go-to for Tamago sandwiches.
My sister and I arrived at Ichi Sando around 1pm on a Saturday. It was a cute little cafe at one of corners on the first floor of the Japan Center. I liked its minimalist interior design and simplified menu. There was limited indoor seating, but there were only a handful of customers there at the time.
Customer service was great. The two employees at the front, one male employee at the register and a female employee taking orders to tables, were very friendly and helpful. We decided to follow through on their joint recommendation, which was the mentaiko (cod roe) with harissa sauce.
I was surprised by how big the sandwich was. One half of the sandwich could totally be good enough for one sitting, so it was the perfect size for my sister and I to share.
I ended up enjoying the sandwich a lot. The tamago was thick and sweet. I loved the stark contrasting flavor of the mentaiko, and yet it wasn't fishy either. The harissa sauce was a nice touch as it added a bell peppery taste to it. Overall I was very pleased by the sandwich and am interested in trying other Tamagoyaki offerings at Ichi Sando.
